Manager - Shipping, Export & Logistics

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Shipping, Export, & Logistics Manager to oversee and optimize all aspects of our domestic and international shipping operations. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and timely delivery of sensitive instruments and equipment to customers around the globe. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of global logistics, freight forwarding, international trade regulations, and the specialized requirements for shipping delicate or high-value goods. The position is based out of our Hopkinton, MA office and it is a full-time role, Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all logistics and shipping activities for domestic and international deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international shipping regulations, including ITAR, EAR, and customs requirements.
  • Oversee packaging procedures to ensure sensitive equipment is securely and appropriately protected during transit.
  • Select and manage relationships with freight carriers, customs brokers, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
  • Track shipments and proactively resolve any transportation delays or issues.
  • Develop and implement logistics strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain quality.
  • Maintain accurate shipping documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, export declarations, and certificates of origin.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, sales, and customer service teams to ensure alignment on delivery schedules and customer expectations.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Lead and develop a small logistics and shipping team, promoting a culture of accountability and excellence.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, shipping, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with international shipping, including knowledge of Incoterms, customs clearance, and export compliance.
  • Familiarity with packaging standards and best practices for sensitive, heavy, large, and/or fragile equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, shipping software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Residency:  US Citizen or Permanent Resident Status is required for this role. 
  • Certification in logistics or supply chain (e.g., APICS, CLTD) is a plus.

 

Office & Travel Expectations (estimated percentage):

  • This is a full-time, 40 hours per week in-office position in Hopkinton, with regular travel to Auburn. Once we are in our new building in Shrewsbury, travel will be limited.
  • Travel between local sites is expected 25% of the time until we are in the new building by end of year. Vehicle and valid driver’s license are required.
